I have a GPL 159 snack machine that sometimes vends the left-most column and the middle column at the same time when either selection has been selected. It happens at every tray including the candy tray in which case the 0 and 4 columns vend together and the 1 and 5 columns vend together (0 being the left most column). At first, it went away after I test vended the affected columns. A few days later I discovered that the problem came back. But test vending did not fix it that time. Then I replaced the main board and the problem went away or so I thought. On my next route run, I stopped by to check the machine. IT CAME BACK! I shut the machine down for about 10 minutes while I poked around the insides. After turning the power back on, the problem went away again. This is where it stands now and, needless to say, it's getting REALLY, REALLY AGGRAVATING. If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it, please let me know.

It sounds as if you m ay have a bad motor that is causing feedback into the circuit. Unfortunately since it is erratic it would be hard to find out which motor.

The first place to start would be to check all your connectors on every motor in the machine and make sure they are tight abd you do not see a pinched or bare wire, Next would be eliminating motors one at a time. I would look at the 0 motors first and then the 1 motors.

Erratic problems are the most difficult to solve as you can never be sure it is fixed until the problem doesn't come back weeks later.

The hardness is either bad, or the small board that the hardness is attached too is. Replace both at the same time, a 159 is a five wide, so make sure you tell them the hardness is either for a chip tray or candy tray.

I would have to say that either the tray harness or the connector board for the tray is the problem. I would get a harness and board for the candy trays, and the same for a snack, switch them and see what happens. If the problem is still there after that, then I would start looking for a bad motor. If the problem starts happening while you are standing there, then you don't have to keep coming back after it starts again. Just get a couple new motors, and, I know it will take a while, but switch them out one by one with the new ones, until the problem goes away, or at least is partially eliminated. It might be more than one motor that is going haywire.

But try the tray harness and tray boards first.

Good call H4UV, I wish I thought of that, but anyways, if it's a motor all you have to due is run a test on that selection. I have 20 159's and I have never had a issue with a motor, but I've replaced a many of harness, the harness gets brittle after time, from pulling the trays in and out .

He can run a test on each selection, but if its a problem that can sometimes disappear, then it may not show up one a motor test.

the_avender- If the harnesses or boards aren't the problem, then I think that it will be up to you on how to eliminate a bad motor, depending on how fast the problem shows up after resetting the machine, and any other details that you may only know when you are in front of the machine.
