Hi all - I just got a Vendo 407 and it did not have a working coin mech.  There's a momentary contact switch in the coin return tray that executes the popular jones plug free vend hack.

However - it seems like everyone else who does this hack is able to simply push the button (and let go) then make their selection.  My machine seems very finicky and requires that I push them both at once, which then results in 2 cans being delivered if you hold it too long.

Here's a video, let me know if you have any ideas!

There's a strange component you can see at 1:12 in the video - I'm not sure what the deal is with this thing (but again I'm a newbie, so maybe this is obvious)

Thanks in advance.

David

That is no strange device, it's the sequencing solenoid for columns 1 and 2.  Because both columns run off of the top selection button, the sequencing relay ensures that pressing button 1 will result in cans vending alternately from cols. 1 and 2 so the columns will sell evenly.  I think the reason you have to press your free vend button at the same time as the selection button is because the credit relay isn't holding the credit.  Pressing the free vend button is supposed to set a credit on the realy.  It energizes and holds the credit until a selection is made.  It's very possible that the relay is worn out from too many free vend credits being set and not used, causing the relay to remain energized until someone makes a selection.  This could be days or more of it being energized and the relay contacts are probably burned out.  I have a relay for this if you want to replace it.  You may PM me for information.
