I had a call from the school board office that has 110 employees in it. Open m-f 8-4:30pm. They want just a snack machine because their current vendor has made them mad. They went up to .90 on candy and the machines is always broken they say. This is a non commisioned account. Does anyone have an account like this? Would you take it? How revenue could I project? Any help would be great!

Vending Guys,

My partner and I are pretty new at the vending game but, 110 employees, 8:00 to 4:30, Monday thru Friday, unhappy with the current vendor. I would say this would be a pretty good prospect..no commission either.

We have a vo tech school with approx 100 students and 25 faculty. We own the snack machine and service/fill the pepsi/water machine and the sales have been pretty good. We lose out with snow days, (upstate NY), and school holidays and breaks, etc, but overall, the snacks get hit pretty hard when the students are in session.

I know you have just faculty, but it sounds like a nice oppurtunity to me.

Thank you for responding. Do you have any clue what to project sales at? Its crazy cause I have a location now with bout 125 employees that are open the same hours and both work for the state or city and it only brings in about $80 a week in snack sales. Keep in mind I won't have any drink machines there.

I'd probably take it, at least for a while, especially if I had a snack machine sitting idle (which I never do, but anyway...) but keep in mind it will be a relatively low-volume account. Since it's a school board office, you have to completely disregard students. They won't play into the equation at all. But you do need to compare it to other "like" office accounts you have because that's what you'll end up with is an office account.

What I'd expect from 110 office workers who barely work a full work-day is about $50 to $75 per week. So don't put a new machine in there. Put something in there reconditioned if you can, or at the very least something used, but do not put a new machine in there.

On the other hand, if you have other prospects in your pipeline that are blue-collar or work longer hours, you might be better off to hold out on the school board office for something that will give you a better return on your equipment.

Great info, thanks! Thats around what I projected was $70 a week. If you knew that an account would bring in $70 a week, what would be the most you would spend on a used machine?

You need to hook up with Southern Equipment Sales. They're out of Atlanta, so they're pretty close to you. Shipping won't be much at all. They have some great National snack machines priced at around $1300. That's exactly what I'd do. Talk to Bob Johnson. www.southernequipmentsales.com

I have five schools and I would suggest you try to get this where the students are. Teachers lounges etc... don't do well and they may have 100 plus employees, but how many are anywhere near the machine. Schools have special rules such as keeping a certain percentage of the machine filled with healthy products etc... or no candy etc... but we use cereal bars and similar items and do very well with the schools. Most we service 2 times per week and they will average 300-500 per week with pretty good margins. (kids just buy it and don't complain about prices).
