Does anyone have any tricks to stop the coins from building up on top of the chute?

No I really don't. ITs a bad design for sure. The only thing I have done at times is tilt the machine to one side carefully. This helps most of the quarters fall. I've gotten bloody knuckles several times from this frustration of trying to get my loot!
