I just spoke to another vendor in the area that told me that Coke is trying to phase out cans and go to bottles only. Has anyone else heard of this? I have several can only machines that will turn into paper weights if this is true. He said that this was supposed to happen by 2010 but they were behind schedule.
Coke has been try to go straight bottles for years, it's much more profitable than cans, but I doubt that they will total get rid of cans all togather, keep in mind that coke is try to convert there customers in there full service business to bottles, not there 3rd party vendors, such as us and I'm sure I would have heard this, we do the local Coke company, and they just built a 100 million dollar facilty with three production lines and room for three more production lines.

I had some concerns about that too but recently when I spoke to a machine supplier that I use, he explained the possible soda tax which will be placed on bottled soda which could also cause the bottlers to rethink how much production they commit to cans versus bottles. He says also that they've been talking about the switch for years, but even if they decided to, it would still take a long time for them to make the total switch and phase out cans all together.
Getting out of cans would be a 3-5 year proccess. It is not something that Coke can do overnight. That is one of the reasons that I use their machines, if they get out of cans then they have to replace the machines, not me!

Well my friend, they could be out of luck or they could look into shims for that machine. They may have to buy a bigger delivery door tho.that would suck if they got out of cans because the people that have "can only" machines would be SOL for their machines and a big headache and cost to replace the machines,

Are both Coke and Pepsi talking about this, or just Coke?

1. They make more $ on the bottles than they do on the cans.
2. You have to buy the 20 oz bottles from them exclusively because you cant get them in stores.
3. To keep vendors from buying the soda from stores where they can get them cheaper than if they bought them directly from Coke or Pepsi.
