Dixie - Narco
Model
DN501E
MC/511-9

9 column

I have a single 501-E in front of my car lot. It was working flawlessly for quite some time and now it is acting up. What happens is this: put the money in and push the selection button. product comes out. ok. next time put money in, push button and either "try another selection" message appears or your money gets returned. I can open the macine and one of the cams/motors will not be turned far enough to release the micro-switch. i can pull out on the door button and the message "homing" apeears on display, the errant cam/motor turns to next cam notch and machine is ready to use again. it may act up several times daily or once a week. i have nothing but 12ox cans. any insight?

I have something similar going on. Is this happening to all selection for you or just one?

not all selections, but 2 or 3.. it seems to be the same selections repeating the issue. maybe the micro-switches need replacing?

That could be a possibilitly. It's a cheap fix. I would try that first then if that does not workI would try a new motor.

Hello, I just ran across this forum and saw your post. More than likely it is the cherry switch. The easiest way to check it is to move the switch to another position and take that selection switch and move it to the position that is having the problem. If the problem follows the cherry switch, then the switch may need replacing. Some times the "L" section of the switch arm gets slightly bent in the direction the cam turns. When this happens, the problem that your having occurs. If the actual switch itself is working fine but the "L" section of the arm is slightly bent, it dose not have to be much, then you can "Gently" bend the "L" section at the right angle point back toward the switch body just a slight bit and it will resolve the problem. Too much of a bend will cause the switch to drop into the cam stop before product falls and short the customer. I hope this helps.

sounds good. thanks for the info. i'll check and tweak the "L" arms on the micro-switch(s) and see what happens. it has not messed up in several days. would the weather have much effect on the operation of the machine? it had been high 90's for 2 or 3 weeks here and now its mid-high 80's, and its workin fine...

if i may also suggest:....the 501 series are fairly well known for moisture getting in those switches, especially in very hot humid conditions....even tho the switch may "click" good, moisture inside the switch simulates contact/non contact....and create the symptoms you describe.....these switches are stepped down to 24 volts,,, which aggravates the problem.....you will notice too, that the motors are wire in series, jumper wire from one wire to the next, which is somtimes like chasing a gremlin......i used to carry extra switches on the dash of my van, letting them dry out, as i had about 200 of these machines on location......if above doesnt work, when you order switches, i recommend 2 or 3, replace any that our suspect....then lay the old switches in a window in sunlight for possible re use at a later date....

I'm thinking its humidity/moisture... now that the temp is low to mid 80's, no issues at all.
