Hello I'm new to vending I own three machines 2 soda and 1 snack. My business is in so cal. I have a 8 selection soda machine that I charge 1.00 for 12oz cans. I have another location that I'm putting a snack and soda machine. The owner has requested that drinks be 75cts and didnt say anything about prices on snacks. I think to make a profit on snacks and sodas you need to get at least 2x your cost of product and nothing less I'm fine with the soda price but my friend who has been vending for 7 yrs is telling me to charge 85cts for my candy bars. I was going to charge 1.00 the candy bars range about 44-49cts my cost. he says they wont sell that well at a 1.00 I'm happy with the rest of my prices for chips, cookies ect there all at the 2x range or more. My location is a factory of about 40 emplys and I'm not paying any fee's. Ok guys lets here your input on pricing thanks to all in advance for replys

I.m facing the same delimna. Don't forget that you're paying the sales tax on anything you sell - 8.25 to 9.25%. That being said you almost have to charge a buck on the snack items. If they don't sell that well stock less - don't forget about the expire dates. You can sell sodas for 75 cents and pay the tax because they only cost 25 cents - they also have a longer shelf life.

I am not actually in the vending business, I am in the repair business, but this I know, you need to get your price set at a rate you can make a profit, because once you set it just going up 5 cents is a major ordeal. If you move your price everyone will start complaining, it just seems to be that way. If you sell coffee for a quarter and go to $.30 you will hear nothing but gripes, if 7-11 goes up a nickle, no big deal it just gets paid. Just make sure you set it correctly first. Hopefully others can give you more insight to the actual pricing structure.
