Hello Everyone,

Newbie here to the biz and to the board! Bought a route and am making a go of it but had a question about product in a box truck... Live in New England so it gets really cold here in the winter.. I have a garage but not big enough to store my 14 ft box truck in.. I dont want to have to lug cases of soda to and from the truck every couple of days so was wondering if there was a way to keep the product from freezing in the truck over the winter? Some have suggested space heaters but which kind? How would I set it up temp wise? Also, it takes about 6-8 hours to do my route and I would be opening and closing the door in between stops so what danger is there of the bottles of soda freezing during my route? Someone said they may frost a bit but not to the point where it would affect anything in the machine or as far as vending product... Any help and comments would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this and constantly learning(sometimes the hard way!) Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't think the time spent on the road would be enough to freeze them either. As far as when you are parked overnight, a ceramic disc heater or something of that nature that's controlled by a thermostat should do the trick. Just keep it warm enough to keep it above freezing. No sense in using the extra electricity to keep everything 75 degrees!

I am route supervisor of a 15 route company in Illinois.
We get a month or so of temps in the mid teens or below each year.
If you don't have a lot of soda on the truck it would be safer to remove
it nightly. Set your route up to do soda 3 days a week if possible.
We use just a box heater that will shut off if turns over. Make sure it is not near
anything flammable and pointed at the soda. It also helps putting a
sheet of foam insulation on the walls and an extra board under the soda.
If you can, closing the door while you get your product next to the door
as much as possible. Also, stacking the soda away from the door helps too,
Diet and water will freeze first so protect them more from the cold.
Good Luck.
