I have owned and operated 3 bulk candy / gumball machines and a tabletop snack machine with a bill changer for a few years. They are in my business and are intended for employees and not really profit minded although they pay their way. I recently aquired an abandoned storage lot that included a Dixie Narco 501e that runs, cools, 8 of the 9 selections work. The problem is the machine has no rods & springs, no bottle or can spacers, no bottle neck guides so it vends none, then 2, then none and so on. It has shims in 8 narrow selections and no shim in the wide selection although I have no idea which one. I hope to set this machine up for 16.9 oz and 20 oz bottles of water and soda for employees to use. Any advice on where to start to get this machine functional would be greatly appreciated. What parts are required etc. I got this far by reading this forum before asking, pictures help a lot.
Thanks in advance

If your 501E has no rods and springs, I tend to think it's already set up for 20oz bottles. The rods and springs when set in the correct holes are for 12oz cans, Red Bull, 16oz Energy such as Monster etc... However, depending on the product, the rod/spring need to be installed in the appropriate hole. (1 of 3 available hole options)

A can shim (1 on the right side of the column) is required if going that route obviously.

I don't have any experience vending 16.9oz bottles out of these machines, only 20oz. What color cam motors are on your machine? If it's dropping 2 at a time and then none, the cam does not sound to me like it's set for the right product. Bottle neck guides are not required on this model. Try dsvendinginc.com for parts for this. They'll have any shim, rod/spring etc...needed for this machine. Part numbers are on the set up decal located inside the machine. Hope some of this info helps you out. I'll answer any other question(s) you may have. Good luck...

Thank you for your reply. The cam motors on the narrow columns are all brown and the cam motor on the wide column is red over gray.
I only want bottles, cans present a far greater spill and clean issue in my warehouse, trucks and work areas.
Are these the right cam motors?
How should they be set up?

Trial and error are great teachers! I have all 9 columns running smooth now, but have encountered a few other minor things.

The only 20 oz water available in my area that claims to vend still sometimes drops 2, is there another shim to correct this?

The bill acceptor is not functioning at all, still learning about it but looks like a replacemment is coming soon.

My stand alone bill changer suddenly quit working yesterday, (when it rains...). Stupidly, I checked the fuse without unplugging and recieved a jolt to remind me of safety practices. Got a call back coming monday from tech support on it but ?? likely a new circut board ??

24 0z pepsi products. Sadly local pepsi distributor doesnt appreciate vending competition and the only bulk source for 20 oz is them. Local discount whs has a good deal on 24 oz but they will only fit 1 deep which means reload often.

There are several 20oz waters that will vend, your local vending product supplier will have them Pepsi and Coke both have water that vends and both will sell to you because thats what they do. You may not like their price but they will sell to you tell them you are a "3rd party vendor". I tell my customers that pepsi and coke are the suppliers and set your price accordingly then go out and find it cheaper some where else if you can.
What bill validator do you have and what kind of stand alone changer do you have?
FYI 24oz bottles will not vend in your machine you may get it to but generally it will not go out the vend port door if it gets turned sideways. Just a thought.
