Does anyone have someone else refilling the machines for them (if their route is too big, etc)? If so, how do you prevent the person you hire from stealing the merchandise or stealing the cash (since this is a cash business)?

You don't. You have to either find someone that is very trustworthy or accept that you may get jacked. Another option is to alternate locations. That is, run their machines once every few months. If you see any anomalies, you may assume you have thief.

I agree with Steve about hiring a trustworthy person. I have heard of some people that make sure the candy compartment and the cash compartment on their machines have two different locks. They just hire someone to refill the candy (only giving them the key to the top lock). They go by later and pick up the money themselves with the key to the cash box. This could minimize some of your work load and the risk of your money being stolen.

A trustworthy person is definitely a must but I don't agree that you have to expect dishonesty. For us, two locks is the way to go. They could arrive later and pick up the money. For us, its about hiring someone to do it. vending machines They support the vending machines and equipment with a national network of service providers.

I use my meter system that is installed on all my machines. My meter is designed around Beaver New Gen coin mechs. I have route people filling and collecting. My meter system has solved the problem. Visit YouTube and type in bulk vending software. We also designed a software package that works with our meter system. Michiganminivend.com.

Ive had several people who worked for me as contractors and more recently as employees. It's worked great for me. Every person I have used I have known them for some time and could vouch for their character. It's kind of a gut decision for you and how well you can verify their honesty. I would be more afraid of someone hijacking my route and going into business for themselves (even with a non-compete agreement) than the cash I would lose from theft. Just something to think about.
