the compressor in my combo machine quit working. Does anyone know where I could find another one without going through the manufacturer. The company is a bunch on non English speakers who have no idea what they're doing and I would rather not deal with them if I can help it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If the account is making money (75.00 per machine a week), I'd scrap the Genesis, and get yourself a snack and drink machine, AP, GPL, National, even USI would be a better choice for snacks, and dixie narco for drinks. If the account is doing less than $75.00 a machine, a week, pull it, toss the machines, invest in some good machines and find an account that does an avg of $75.00 a week a machine.

I'm more doing it as a service. I make a little money, not a ton. There's no commission and it's a good safe location that's convenient for me to go to. Im really doing it as a service though and hoping for better accounts from them in the future. (It's a school)

I would love to hear if you made any progress with your compressor problem. I have a similar problem with my refrigeration unit on one of my genesis go-368 machines. the compressor and the fan and everything seems to run ok, it just won't cool down below about 60 degrees. what I am afraid of is that it may have been tipped too far during placement (we installed it ourselves) thus 'voiding the warranty'
What exactly does that (tipped to far) do and can it be undone? does anyone know how much freon is supposed to be inside the compressor, in ounces? when making calls around to have the freon checked out, everyone says 'we don't work on vending machine units'. No, I haven't called Genesis...trying to avoid that and just fix this ourselves if possible. If we need to get a new refrigeration unit, is Genesis the only place we can get one? sorry to sound so uniformed, but we are extremely new to this business. Thanks!

sounds like u might be low on gas, call a vending machine repair service, not hvac, vending repair, they can come out and check it. you can buy the equipment to do your own service but unless you have a lot of machines its not worth it.
if you can find one post where you are maybe someone can refer you or check on craigs list

I can't seem to find anywhere with a compressor, but in the search I saw it was a Chinese company - I've dealt with a number of them and would suggest you try to contact them on Skype or something like that where there is no question as to what's being said. If necessary you can lean on translation sites to convert Chinese to English. It's not perfect but it'll get you what you need. If they press you to buy a once saying you want one for a "sample" has always worked well for me in the past.

If someone would post a pic of this machine I might be able to help ...... So many of these machines are manufactored under different names and are similar I don't pay any attention to makes or models I just fix problems.

Don't have a photo but maybe this description will do:

This is one of those over and under combo machines where the snacks are on top and the drinks are on bottom. It's the kind you always see on craigslist where they are advertising "SIX VENDING MACHINES ON LOCATIONS" and other such messages. The refer unit is mounted on a deck that slides out of the back. The evaporator coils are enclosed in an insulated box that blows the cold air into the drink compartment. The good news is that the refrigeration is real easy to remove from the machine. You can loosen two bolts, yank it out, and plug it in for testing. The bad news is the way it is mounted on a deck and parts enclosed, it is a pain to work on. They are poorly constructed of cheap materials and love to leak. The Genesis people can be difficult to deal with but after you tell them what you think of them and their equipment, they become generally compliant.

pujolsfan,

You'll probably have trouble finding a used cooling unit because that is the first thing to go on these machines. If you're really stuck on this machine and depending on cost I'd lean towards repairing the old refrigeration unit over buying a new one. Any repairs you do will make the old one of better quality than factory. At the same time, you can often find these machines very cheap on craigslist so it could be almost as cheap buying an entire used machine as fixing the one you have.

OK, Is this the machine that has the condenser mounted in the back left corner and vents to the side? Evaperator is enclosed in a foam box to the left of the compressor facing from the back? T-stat mounted in the back?

From the front, the condensor will be on the left rear and the evaporator coils are in the foam box on the right. The condensor coils are in front of the condensor. It vents to the rear.

Ok, Does it pull air from the front or side? Doesn't really matter it has to have good air flow it is at its limits for the capacity it has bad airflow to begin with and its hard to maintain which in turn causes a strain on compressor. I believe the t-stat is mounted in the rear and is not mounted in the cold box. 80% of the probe has to be in the cold box to work properly and I believe that is pushing its limits and over time short cycles the compressor also a strain. As for freon not sure how much and depending on what freon you replace it with it doesn't have the same properties so it doesn't matter. When charging turn off evap fans and charge the system to where the suction line frosts all the way to where it leaves the cold box. As for replacement depending if its 1/4 hp or 1/3hp your looking at about 385.00 to 500.00 not sure it is worth it. It would make a better target. If you want to ship me the refer system I do repair them but don't recommend it. Just a thought.
