The best locator on the planet is "YOU" I am pleased you made the time to read.
Stop paying others to locate machines for you, you're wasting your money.
Consider this a moment. You "made" the time "yourself" to read this article.
If you had "paid" someone to read this for you, they would have read it, well they could have read it, they may not have read it at all.
What benefit did "you" gain by paying? None. You gave your money away for something you should have done yourself.
Sure it takes way more effort and time to locate machines compared to reading this article, but it cost's you nothing, only your time and effort are spent. Your rewards far out weigh effort.
I think you have grasped my point here. But I will continue on with a stronger point of view.
Time is not an issue, everyone has some spare time to locate. Anyone who thinks or says "i have no time to locate my machines" should stay away from this industry. You sure find time to collect coins, no excuses.
Don't watch T.V. locate machines instead.
Stop playing on the computer, locate machines instead.
Once you have located all your machines yourself, that's the time for play, relaxing etc.
Locating vending machines makes hard work at first , but it's rewarding for "you"
in the long term, most of all you can do it yourself. Stop being lazy.
How long would it take to "personally" locate only one machine per day, on foot? (Not phone)
Maybe one hour, maybe two hours. You have just saved $50. - $100. bucks or more. How long does it take for you to earn $100. or $1000. one week or two?
Would you pay a so called professional love maker to make love to your sweetheart for one or two hours each day? Who would benefit most here?
In this example it would not cost you any money either, mostly for you guys. lol.
The bottom line...
Love locating everyday as much as love making and you will prosper. Then maybe you'll become such an expert at the locating game, you can charge some poor bugger a small fortune for something you know he/she could have done themselves but were simply too lazy to get out and go for it . Winners never give up.

While I agree with you as well that you should be your own best salesperson, some people, like myself in this case are new to the vending business and are really not even sure how to approach an owner/manager to get a machine placed. I mean, with the overwhelming number of vending machines in any number of locations, what makes me or you stick out from the rest of the vendors?
Do you have any words of wisdom for beginners with no sales experience, or better yet, do you have a sales pitch that works more often than not?
I too am considering a vending locator, only because I don't have the first clue as to how to try and sell my vending machine in their locations.
PLEASE HELP!

My partner and i went out and stopped in 6 places in our target area industrial park. We only looked for parking lots with lots of cars, not very scientific but the results were amazing. In 3 we were stopped by the gatekeeper in the front reception who gave us the name of the person we had to contact. the other three all had vending machines but they were totally dissatisfied with their service. They showed us the machines and in all three, there were many empty slots, expired snacks and most all make machine change errors or just keep the money and dont vend. they call for service and in one instance they are waiting a week for service. All 3 are potentials for us and 1 is a done deal. they just need to send the remove equipment letter to the company. We will never pay a locator. Its a numbers game, the peoplein the companies are all nice and cordial and many are dissatisfied with their current service. We're very happy with our first venture into locating for expansion.

Thanks for the update. I haven't actually purchased the vending machine yet, because the more I read this forum, the more nervous I am about using a locator. Most people selling existing routes can't/won't verify their income and the locator I am dealing with doesn't seem like a company, just an individual trying to sell/consolidate a part of his routes. The only upside to this guy so far is that he has agreed to meet with me in person once I buy the machine for delivery, that makes me feel a little better knowing that I am not just dealing with someone through email or over the internet.
This is my downfall. I don't feel that I am a very good sales person. I have never really had any professional training in it, and to be honest I hate being told, "No". I understand that a business refusal is not necessarily a personal rejection, but I do believe that no one will buy my product unless they have first bought me. If someone tells me, "No" I take it very personal most of the time and that is discouraging.
I know that is a fear I have to get over and your motivational words have inspired me. You have in essence just described the Nike slogan, "Just Do It".
I will hold off on using a locator and start pounding the pavement until I get a machine placed. Once I get a deal done, I will buy a machine from one of the many outlets online and see how it goes from there.

Dont feel bad about that because most vendors feel the same way you do. Sure its easy to say just do them yourself but you might not have the time or the skills to do it. And people feeling get hurt when they hear the word no over and over. That is why I only use locators that do not charge any fees to work. try AtlanticVendingGroup.com they do the work and you pay them when you place your machines just follow what the website ask you to do.

any other types of no upfront cost locators?I think for those people who do not have the time. Just use a locator that DO NOT charge any money for you to place your machines. There are some out there. The one I use is Atlantic Vending Group they give me the locations first i place them and then I pay for what I placed. They make it easy to do business with them there is no stress about getting ripped off.

If a locator finds a great location for you, wouldn't they just be better putting a machine their themselves. Anyway, if I was a locator that's what I'd do - put my own machines in the best spots and sell the average and inferior locations.

I met with a guy who I was looking to buy his route and he spent $500 to find a site. Maybe I should not buy his business but find locations for him at a discount

I don't know about that. We have spent hours finding locations by visiting places with a brochure and a laptop. We even had our website displayed and none of our approaches worked. Locations we found, zero!
We're going to go with a location service. A friend of ours in Seattle went with the same company and they had a great experience with them. Any other tips other than telling us to keep going out? We're probably paying more in gas than a one time fee to find a location.

when I started in the vending business about 10 years ago, I bought 30 double headed bulk candy machines. I also got 30 locations along with my purchase. Most of the locations they provided were very poor. I don't have any of my original locations and have relocated all of my machines myself. I think it best to try and get into places that you do business, and of course, have the traffic neccessary to support a machine. I know there is a fear of rejection that holds alot of us back.......I have 5 machines right now that I would like to relocate to greener pasture...and the one sitting in my dining room isn't providing much income either.....

I'm very freshly new to the vending industry just purchased 10 used bulk candy machines yesterday.
But I'm doing to like I did my other business. I use to run my own Lawn Care business.
And when I started out I started out with a 21" mower and ford ranger
With in two years I had over 30 accounts and Commerical accounts F-150 14 foot trailer and two commerical mowers.
I thrive and drive off rejection. It fuels me more to keep going and land a location or win the lawn bid I wanted.
And just like lawn industry you have to vend great product and do great work. And word of mouth be your best advertiser you can have.
I perfer to do this and become friends with the locations and have a one on one relationship with the customers. Because you try to meet all there needs and visit with them. And just tell them to pass along your name and services. You think when I started my lawn care business as a quite little 16yr old I knew what I was doing HECK NO! Grab bull by horns ladies and gentleman and like posted " Just do it" You have nothing to loose so one location says no always more. Skys the limit so go for it and let nothing hold you back. Sorry I ranted Just my 2cents just do it
