The machine has a Mars VN-2511 validator in it. Currently the LED is blinking 5 times over and over which I realize means the magazine is removed... but it is actually on. I can take it on and off, makes no difference in the error. If I unplug the validator and plug it back in, it will blink 4 times (cross channel blocked) once, then it goes to blinking 5 times over and over.

I have pulled it apart the best I can in the machine. Everything appears to be normal and nothing is in it or blocking any paths that I can tell. It runs briefly (startup) after plugging it back in and then the error codes start blinking.

Curious if anyone has any suggestions... or is it just toast and should I go ahead and replace it?

I would repair validator, not replace it. I believe price is less that $50 with a years warranty. All depends upon your location.

I am in Vero Beach, FL (East Central Florida on the coast) Last one I picked up about a month ago was just refurbished and got it for $76 bucks... It was used to replace a worn out Maka.

I might have a 2501 to throw in its place... Do you know off the top of your head if I can just swap out the faceplates on those and be good to go?

Did you try pushing and holding the door button to see if the light stays on?

It's a single price machine... It doesn't have a door button that I have been able to locate.

Your problem is your sensors are dirty. Pull it apart remove the bottom part of the unit there is a tab on the botton to release the unit from the validator case then it slided out to you there are two little holes there blow them out then clean the little glass spots between the rollors/ belts put it back togeather and it should work again. I have that issue all the time because I have 4 machines place at one location in a dusty enviroment. I stay ahead of it most of the time by cleaning the acceptors each time I service the machines.

I tried that, but it didn't work. When I took it apart there was quite a bit of corrosion on the PCB which was likely causing some other problems as well. I just got a good working one for about $70 and stuck it in it's place. I'll just chalk it up to parts or if I find another non-working one I'll combine the two into another good working one.
