Hey guys. I am so glad there is an excellent forum like this. I am working on a C-51 Cavalier with a 4 Amp 115 volt R-12 compressor. It is drawing about 25 amps as it tries to get the compressor running and then blows the breaker after a minute or two. The machine is electrically sound apart from the compressor because with the cooling turned to 0, the fans run no problem. I have bypassed the thermal safety to make sure that wasn't the issue, and it is not. I have also checked the windings for continuity, and that also does not seem to be a problem.

Any other ideas? I would really appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance!

You have a bad compressor with a locked rotor.  It must be replaced.
