Hi, I am new to the site, so thanks to anyone for the help. I tried to search through the site to see if anyone else had my problem but I couldn't find anything.

I have a SnackShop vending machine that is not accepting coins at all. When a customer puts a coin into the machine it simple comes back to them in the return tray. The machine will take dollar bills and return the correct change after a customer has made their selection. This is a problem that has just started. A week ago it was accepting coins just fine.

Here is what I have tried so far:

1. checked for jammed coins.

2. cleaned the mechanism anywhere coins went through

3. checked all plugs...

4. checked that the coin return button was not stuck in and that the coin reader flap was flat against the coin reader chute (this was an issue with one of my other machines that was causing the same problem).

5. Inspected the wiring - the wiring harness connecting the coin reader to the main box has been bent in a couple of places, so I wonder if one or more of the wires back there was bent enough that the connection has been lost.

I found this post but it seems that his machine is sending all of the coins into the box inside of the vending machine:

I have a feeling that I just need to replace the coin mech but obviously I'd like to try to fix it myself if that is possible. I have a guy who does repairs for me but the machine would have to be out of service for up to a week if he were to repair it. Does anyone have advice for how to repair the mech or should I just buy a new one on ebay or from my repair guy (only if he gives me a good price)?

Thanks again for any help. I only got into the vending machine business 9 months ago, so I am slowly learning how to fix problems with my machines.

You will need to replace the coin mech as there is probably an electronic problem in the mech.  I offer coin mech exchanges for $85.00 plus shipping and the return of your bad coin mech.  I can ship one to you Monday and you should be able to get it within 3 days.  Please let me know if you would like one, and then I will need your current coin mech model number.

Thanks,

Randy

Before you shell out $85 (which is kind of high) try tuning your mech. Here is how.

1. Remove coins from changer.
2. Unplug power source without unplugging changer cable.
3. Short the 2 exposed pins on the changer control board located just above the dime tube with a screwdriver.
4. Reapply power to changer.
5. Remove screwdriver.
6. Reseat acceptor/rejector portion of changer.
7. Insert 2 nickels, 2 dimes, 2 quarters and then, 2 dollar coins. (COINS MUST BE DROPPED IN SLOWLY IN THIS ORDER)
8. Changer is now ready to accept coins again. Drop in fifteen or twenty coins of each vallue.
9. If at first you do not succeed, try again.

If this does not correct your problem after two or three attempts, you may have a defective electronic component!
Go here to be directed to an authorized repair facility.
If you know it is just a part that is broken, go to here
Hope this helps smile.gif

Additionally, we offer refurbished mechs for $75 with a one year warranty...

Thanks for the advice. I was able to fix it by tuning the coin mech. It is working great now.

I combined these instructions (found on this site)  with the instructions in the pdf user manual:

Interrupt power to the changer by removing the changer Power Plug.
Lower the Acceptor / Gate Assembly
Set the changer option switches as follows:
Short the two teaching pins (upper set of pins on TRC6800) by touching both simultaneously with the tip of a conductive screwdriver.
With the screwdriver still touching the teaching pins, re-instate power to the changer.
Remove the screwdriver.
Press the Acceptor / Gate Assembly back into position until the spring clips engage.
The changer is now in the Teaching Mode.
In Teaching Mode, the changer can be taught to recognize a set of coins. These coins are placed into eight (8) different teaching locations - ten (10) teaching locations on TRC6510 and TRC6512 coin changers - two locations per each denomination coin (nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, two tokens forTRC6510 and TRC6512). Depressing the coin return lever during the teaching procedure skips a teaching location.

After you've placed the coin changer in teaching mode, follow the following procedure to teach the coin changer to accept the coins you need:

Insert (1) U.S. nickel; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. nickel; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) U.S. dime; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. dime; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) U.S. quarter; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. quarter; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) dollar coin; it will be rejected.
Insert second dollar coin; it will be rejected.
After teaching, the changer switches to a calibration mode. This mode serves as a fine-tuning function. To calibrate, insert 20 coins of each denomination (following the teaching order) into the changer. Acceptance may be poor at first. However, it will improve with the number of coins inserted.

The coin mech is probably fine, it just needs tuned.  COvending just posted it above, or anyone can find the official one online.  We have it under the manuals page on our website.
