i have a MEI 4000 coin changer and it is not accepting change. can anybody help me out

Try tuning it.

Preparing Series 4000 Coin Changers

If you are using MEI's VN4000 or VN4010XV coin changers, first check to see if Switch 1
is in the ON position to accept the $1 coin. If you wish to accept dollar coins only when
there are sufficient quarters available in the change tubes, put Switch 7 in the ON position.
If you do not wish to accept $1 coins when the quarter coin tubes are low or empty, place Switch
7 into the OFF position.

To pay out dollar coins, make sure that the VN4000 or VN4010XV coin changer is equipped
with an interchangeable coin cassette that includes a dollar-coin tube. Then, set Switch 2 in
the ON position if you want to divert dollar coins to the cash box when the coin tube is filled
to the low coin level or, set Switch 2 to the OFF position if you want the coin tubes filled to
the upper coin level before dollar coins are diverted to the cash box.

If you are using MEI's VN4510 coin changer, follow the instructions for Switches 1 and 2.
Switch 7 is not used on the VN4510 coin changer.

After you are sure that dollar coin acceptance is enabled, drop a few dollar coins into
the coin changer to see if the coins are accepted. Unless the dollar coin channel has been erased
in the past, the coin changer should accept dollar coins immediately. If the dollar coins are
not accepted, you'll need to reteach the coin changer using the following procedure:

Depress and hold the YELLOW button until the red LED starts flashing; depress button C and D to teach $1 coin acceptance.
Deposit 20 one-dollar coins into the coin changer. The LED will come on solid and the 21st coin is accepted. After the 21st coin is accepted, the LED will stop flashing, and the coin changer will return to the normal mode.

Preparing TRC Coin Changers
If you are using MEI's TRC6000, TRC6010XV or TRC6510, you can enable dollar coin acceptance by ensuring that Switch 3 is in the ON position. If you are using a TRC6200 or TRC6800 coin changer, you can enable dollar coin acceptance by placing Switch 1 in the ON position. Finally, you can enable dollar coin acceptance on MEI's TRC6512 coin changer by placing Switch 2 into the ON position.

After you are sure that dollar coin acceptance is enabled, drop a few dollar coins into the coin changer to see if the coins are accepted. Unless the dollar coin channel has been erased in the past or taught to accept other coins or tokens, the coin changer should accept dollar coins immediately. If the dollar coins are not accepted, you'll need to reteach the coin changer using the following procedure:

If teaching is required, follow these steps before beginning the actual teaching procedure:

Interrupt power to the changer by removing the changer Power Plug.
Lower the Acceptor / Gate Assembly
Set the changer option switches as follows:
Short the two teaching pins (upper set of pins on TRC6800) by touching both simultaneously with the tip of a conductive screwdriver.
With the screwdriver still touching the teaching pins, re-instate power to the changer.
Remove the screwdriver.
Press the Acceptor / Gate Assembly back into position until the spring clips engage.
The changer is now in the Teaching Mode.
In Teaching Mode, the changer can be taught to recognize a set of coins. These coins are placed into eight (8) different teaching locations - ten (10) teaching locations on TRC6510 and TRC6512 coin changers - two locations per each denomination coin (nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, two tokens for TRC6510 and TRC6512). Depressing the coin return lever during the teaching procedure skips a teaching location.

After you've placed the coin changer in teaching mode, follow the following procedure to teach the coin changer to accept the coins you need:

Insert (1) U.S. nickel; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. nickel; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) U.S. dime; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. dime; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) U.S. quarter; it will be rejected.
Insert second U.S. quarter; it will be rejected.
Insert (1) dollar coin; it will be rejected.
Insert second dollar coin; it will be rejected.
After teaching, the changer switches to a calibration mode. This mode serves as a fine-tuning function. To calibrate, insert 20 coins of each denomination (following the teaching order) into the changer. Acceptance may be poor at first. However, it will improve with the number of coins inserted.
