I'm interested in getting into this business. I'm in Arizona. What licenses?\Costs? will there be upfront (aside from the machine costs) just to be able to vend in my state? How does one find locations?

I'll just ask those...

Thanks for any help.

Arizona requires a business license which is your privelege tax license as well.  Then you need the same from the city you operate out of.  Technically you have to have a license from each city you have a machine placed in but I wouldn't worry about that unless you have machines on a city property other than the one you're based out of.  The licenses probably run from $50 to $100 per year and sales tax returns for a start up will be due quarterly or annually.  Locators are a crap shoot and almost universally not to be trusted.  They are also expensive so if you choose to use one don't let them shine you on or sell you something you haven't approved.  You're better off to do your own locating because if you can't sell then you won't be able to grow your business.  What type of vending are you going to do?  You can find lots of vending accounts for sale on Craigslist if you're patient.

If you're doing bulk vending then this is the only locator that I know that has been honest and productive.  http://vendinglocator4u.com/  or at 541-979-5474.

His name is Rodney and he may even do some vending locating but I'm not sure.

I am planning on doing my own locating. I figured I'd get a candy machine or a drink machine and start out small.

Should I expect to have to pay to locate my machine at some business? How does that work?

Also, where is product sourced from? Costco?

Thanks for any advice?

Never offer to pay a location to allow you to place your machines.  Let them be the ones to bring it up and then how you approach it depends on if it's vending or bulk, what kind of machine it is (soda or snack) and what volume you expect.
