Hey Guy's whats worked best for getting your locations? I dont want ideas, I have read and looked up all the way's I just want to know overall what has worked best for getting the machines you now have working at locations. I personally have 2 locations I got the first one by telling everyone I know I would give them a finders fee of 200.00 that really raises eye brows when I offer that amount of money. And it got me my first location that does very well. My second location was given to me by another vender who didnt want it, he says it was out of his area which I believed and was desperate for a location. The location is a dog oh well live and learn nothings free in life. I have tried flyers which I just started and going door to door which has not turned out a location yet.

I would like to know as well. You sound like an intelligent person.

When you knock on doors what do you say to the businesses?

I like the idea of a finders fee however who are you telling you will pay them $200 for referring you a location? The first reason I ask is because people who are not at least somewhat familiar with the vending business don't know what a great location is because they don't know what to look for. The other reason I ask is because you might get taken advantage of just like the last vendor who referred you a location that wasn't what you thought simply because he knows if you aren't experienced enough you'll fork over $200. By the way, did you pay him $200? Personally, I would hold off on offering anyone a bird dog / finders fee for any money until you become more experienced than you already are now.

I'm not as experienced as some of the other people on here, in fact I don't own any vending machines, so please forgive me if what I'm saying isn't accurate. I'm new, like yourself, and am seeking the answers to many of the questions I am sure you have as well. Here is my insight so you can maybe take some value from it.

  • Paying a commission to the manager.
  • Paying the manager a bonus to get in with out a commission.
  • Getting references (leads) from the businesses you have already spoken to. I've found most business owners socialize with their own kind... business owners!
  • Instead of knocking on doors do more research regarding where you currently see existing accounts (vending machines) and open the phone book and call business similar to where you see existing accounts.
  • Put together a 1 or 2 minute sales pitch and don't lie (nobody likes liars). Keep it concise and get to the point. If they are interested set up another appointment by bringing them a "gift basket" with samples of your products and make adjustments to the product variety your vending machine will hold as needed (if they want different product). Close the sale / agreement / contract.

Be prepared to make a great presentation. You'll never get a second to chance to what?... Make a fist impression! Also, never stop looking for locations. You always need to keep adding to the "pile" of potential locations. As you find more locations follow your gut instincts and move your low performance accounts to the newer accounts or buy a machine for the new account, etc. Get some business cards together and maybe a small flyer that is stapled to your business cards. I've noticed people like bright colors so see if you can get a logo together and a telephone number that isn't your personal cell phone as your business starts to grow.

Please come back and let us know how you're doing! Thanks!
