Just ran into a similar situation myself here in CA - how did you deal with it in the end? Any advice?

put a spin on it, install a good sharpener and hope kids will use it for fun (they learn to socialize by the water-cooler later on). make sure no fingers can get in, though....

yes, t-stat would be my first guess. unless you room has high humidity levels, the evo fan is not working properly - check the motor even if blades still turn, on old machines the brushes need cleaning after a couple of years, otherwise the blades don't get nominal RPMs and you still see ice buildups on the coils.
as peeps said above, restoring this machine must be an act of love, for business purposes you are better served by a refurb model that had some life instilled in it by a professional. Good luck with it!

affirmative for making the holes bigger, just make sure when you reassemble them that you align the plate properly and test at different floor angles. most installations "assume" that floors are horizontal, and even if machines were installed leveled, you never know when the administration moves them two feet left or right and ignore the balancing. lot of client frustration (and abuse on your kit) coming from something so simple to fix. good luck with it.
