How often do you inventory the cans/bottles in your machines? I would like to be able to keep track of my products, to make sure my machines are not giving freebies and such. How often do you guys inventory?

Never...I figure if I lost 1,2,3 products the time I spent inventorying to find what would most likely amount to so few products would be worth more than what was lost. I figure I know roughly how much money I should be getting for as busy as the machine has been.

When I first started out 9 years ago I counted at every service. When we got busier I figured the time I spent counting snacks and pop I could be on my way or at my next stop. If you keep regular service on your accounts especially the good ones you know what is normal use. I got to the point on alot of them I know what to take in without going in and looking. For example if on a particular account you average 12 to 18 dr. peppers or snicker bars (take your pick) every time you show up and then all of a sudden you show up and all the dr pepper plus other slections are sold out then I would check out the machine. Because trust me on this, if the machine is giving out freebies or two for one it will be empty before the day is over. because people will start buying them and putting them in a frig or thier locker. I might add that this is when it helps to have a great relationship with your customer where the machine is at. I had people call me before and tell me that a row or selection is malfunctioning and that its giving away stuff.

Just my take on it

I agree with the relationship point. As a matter of fact, about 6 weeks ago, I left a location after servicing it and got a call about an hour later from them telling me that the machine was open! I had closed the snack machine and locked the lock, but had failed to close the door completely. They could have opened the door and cleaned me out entirely, but they were kind enough to call me and inform me about the error of my ways!
