So my nephew just purchased a Vendo V-192-8 to use in front of the family store.
Had it a week, and everything was running great until yesterday.

It started kicking the breaker on the 6 way we had it plugged in to.
We figured it might be that it needed to be plugged straight into an outlet, instead of running of the extension.
When we plugged it in, he noticed a strange, sweet odor coming from the machine.
The compressor still didn't kick in.

Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

My best quess is the compressor has gone south and is locked up. It is probably pulling too many amps trying to start and that is what is tripping the six way. The smell is probably the wiring on the compressor getting hot and burning up. Also you should never run a pop machine off an extension cord unless it is heavy duty with 10 to 12 gauge wire in it. Regular extension cords are normally 14 gauge and not heavy enough for the load that the compressor pulls.

Sweet smell is either the compressor leaking or there has been a pop spill/leak earlier in the machine and it is now getting on some part that is overheating and bringing up the smell

Thanks for the quick responses.

The locations is not near an outlet, but we will switch to a much heavier-duty cord and dedicate it to the soda machine alone.

Any idea how much a new compressor costs or where to start looking for one?

Compressor can be ordered through any refigeration company. Prices for new usually start around $300 and go up. Other than that, they have quick service at Brokerhouse Distributors.

The cost will probably be between 2 and 3 hundred dollars
My favorite place for compressor decks is www.vendingworld.com I have ordered several from there and have never had a problem. It will come already charged with freon and all you have to do is take it out of the box and swap it out with the old one. Bear in mind this is for the whole deck but if you do it this way you do not have to find a refraigeration guy to charge it.

Good luck
