Hello everyone,

I'm Bryan in Florida. I just recently purchased a Dixie Narco 276E Vending Machine. I have to say that I am very new at this and have zero knowledge about it. So of course, I have questions.

First, did I pay to much for the machine? It was listed on Man Cave Calassifieds in my area. I got it delevered for $325.00. Then I had to have a beverage repair man drill the lock ($80.00) and then he also fixed the refridgeration unit display, and coin slot for another $235.00. FOr a total of $680.00 to get it running correctly. He was very fair in my opnion, as his shop is 40 miles south of me.

2nd, In my area, I know there are peoples who are breaking into the machines to steal money. I would like to weld a lasp on the unit. If I unplug the machine from the wall, will the electronice be ok using a mig welder?

3rd Drinks: I loaded up the 12oz cans as that is what was next to the buttons. I was thinking about selling bottled water. So will this machine do bottles (16 or 20oz) I was also told my several peoples that you cant just go to walmart and buy a 24pk of water and put them into the machine. You have to get them from Coke or Pepsi as they add air to strengthen the bottle. If I attempt it, I can jam the machine...Any ideas? The current setup is single slots for the 12oz cans if that helps.

4th, The upper right corner of the machine has a gap, I was thinking about putting a plastic cover over it to keep water out as it rains all the time in Florida. Will this damage the machine?

I guess that will be it for now.. I really look forward to all the replies.

Hi Bryan,

1. You don't have too much invested in this machine as it's a very good machine so your money is well spent.  These machines can go for up to $1000 in location-ready condition.

2. Please don't weld anything onto your machine.  There are hasps available to mount to the side of the door and that will cover the T-handle itself so there's no need to damage the machine by welding.

3. You have been told correctly that you can't just use any old water bottle without concern for jammed columns.  While Coke and Pepsi do have nitrogen-charged bottles that will stay firm in a cold machine, there is a cheaper alternative in a 16.0 oz size from whichever Nestle-owned regional water is available in your area.  You find this bottle under one of the following names: Arrowhead, Poland Springs, Zephyrhills, Ozarka, Ice Mountain or Deer Park.  Only one of these brands will be in your area and you might need to hunt for the 16.0 oz size.  This size bottle is designed to stay firm when cold due to the horizontal ribs formed into the bottle.  Some of my customers claim to have had good success with the 20 oz. size from these brands as well.  In any case, to do bottles in your machine will require that a shim be changed in the column and, depending on the bottle size, a rod/spring assy. will need to be added as well.

4. This machine is already outdoor rated and should withstand rain without problems, however you can cover whatever areas you wish without hurting the machine.  There should already be a metal panel that covers the top and lock side gaps between the door and cabinet.  Those are anti-theft panels.  There is a gasket on the inner door that seals against both the cabinet and the outer door and then there is probably a strip of gasket across the top edge of the outer door as well.

You can PM me for any parts you need for this machine in the way of hasps, locks, shimming parts and flavor strips.  I'd be happy to help you out.
