D/N 600 can machine. Why is it poking holes in my root beer? Just root beer...nothing else. What is in there that is poking cans?

Don't know about the construction of your 600 machine, but a week ago, I had an account where I have a 501 say that their Coke cans were getting sliced. They thought I was opening the cases with a box cutter and accidentally slicing the cans without realizing it. Of course I wasn't, so I emptied the slot in the machine and found that in the part at the bottom that the bottom row of cans fits into as they are being vended has some aluminum "tabs" for lack of better words that apparently keep the cans from shifting toward the front as they're in there. One of the tabs had been bent out of shape, probably from moving the machine with only one or two cans in it, and it had a sharp edge on it. I figured that to be where the cuts were coming from. After speaking to the person who complained about it, I believe that's where the problem was. Tried to bend the tab back into shape, but it was too far gone. Had to remove it. Next time I go back, I'll check back with them to see if they're getting cut still, but I think that will solve it.

Food for thought.

I saw those very same "tabs". Are they needed?

I hope they're not too necessary. I removed the one and don't plan to replace it unless I start getting some other complaints about the machine having problems vending that selection. It was rivetted in place.

I may remove the tab if I get another punctured soda. So far, this D/N machine has been nothing but trouble. My older D/N 360 works like a champ...but this newer 600...JUNK.

Feel it up a little before you remove it to see if it could be the source. Mine had a sharp edge on it which made me think that was the problem.

I am from Canada and back in August we had PEPSI cans with hockey players on the label. These cans were always being leaked and I was getting calls. They were making certain cans a little bit thinner aluminum and this caused the cans to get slightly bent from the weight of one can on top of another and by the time can "X" would make it to the bottom of the machine (next one ready to vend upon someone selecting it) it was so dented and crushed that when the next person bought that can "X", and it dispensed, the can would burst when it made it to the product slot for customers to pick up.

Those tabs are to hold the cans inside the machine when the machine is being rocked/tipped. It's to prevent people from shaking freebies out of the machine.
