"...ending up in small claims court"? Vending is an all cash business. The owner of the location would have an extremely difficult time proving what you did or didn't owe him/her. If you properly explain to the owner/decision maker that you'll be averaging revenue anywhere between $5-150 a month (more like $5-15), then I would assume they wouldn't put up too much of a fuss about getting, for example, 15% of $15. This is why many locations will agree to have you donate their part to a charity. To specifically answer your question, I wouldn't mess with contracts if it is possible. There a way too many other locations you could put your machine that wouldn't require one. Also, what can be said about a person who is worried about a couple dollars a month? If you decide to do a contract, I'd base it on a percentage of what you profit, not a flat-rate. Otherwise you could be creating an "alligator" that eats into your earning potential. Always be reserved or modest in your predictions of income. I hope this helps.

A contract is a good idea, even if it is basic. it does not have to be binding it can just be a list of services you will provide, and general info. that way the business owner can see things in "black and white". your less likly to run into problems. here is an example.

****************************************************************************************

Address: _______________________________________________________________

Phone: ________________________________ Email: __________________________

Contact / Manager / Owner: _______________________________________________

The vending equipment shall remain the property of ZYX Vending Services.

Contact, Manager, or Owner of the above location agree to immediately notify ZYX Vending Services in the event of the location going out of business or, a transfer of ownership.

This agreement is not binding on either party. The vending equipment may be removed by either party, for any reason, with a minimum notice of three business days.

Interesting...how does it work w/a charity?

For charities, I have a verification letter from the charity stating that my company pays the charity a portion of the sales from the machine. I do not do both commission to business owners and donations to the charity. I also don't try to act like I am from the charity. I simply state my company operates the machines for the charity and present the letter to them to have for their files. This works well for me.
