In Topic: How Much?

I always point out that it's a service to their employees or customers; plus I leave the vend size setting at 5 (wider for PMMs). If they bring up the subject (I never do) I tell them they can have 10% commission and the vend size goes back to 3, and I show them the difference in the amount of candy they get. So far, when people see how clean and well-stocked the machines are they agree to the bigger vend and no commission. Of course it depends on where you're placing yours; mine are in workplaces and small hotels.

Good point about the inside of the tube for tri-vends..I use double-sided tape down here because it gets really really hot and humid in the summer. Thanks to this forum and Caserri for the great tips!

Hi WJT
I just logged on and you're the 2nd post I read. I'm from Ohio I know thats not in Florida but my understanding of this business is you are an independent operator and are subject to IRS rules as such. As for filing quarterly that is a guide line and not a rule as the IRS doesn't want you getting behind on what you will owe them at the end of the year. With as few machines that you have out you have nothing to worry about anyway.Don't know what you meant about being exempt because we all pay federal tax on income even if its passive.I'm also assuming that you have a primary job that withholds taxes.Everything you buy for vending(machines, candy and locators) not to mention wear and tear on your vehicle to service them. Insurance on said vehicle, gas and don't forget that you do bookkeeping in your house so as you grow a competent CPA is going to have you write off a percentage of all you household bills.I really didn't mean to make this a lengthy log as I've never done this before but it just started coming out. I prefer to talk on phone. If this helps I'm glad if not just throw it away. If you want to call my cell is 330-559-8750.Goodluck

That's pretty much what I was going to say too. It's a lot of recordkeeping, but worth it in the end if you plan to stay in this business. Last year I lost money on my other business, but still had to file and show that the costs exceeded the profits. I thought I wouldn't have to file because I hadn't made enough to tax, but the IRS called and had me file anyway.

Do you know a guy name Otter???

Lee

No--though I'd probably know him by face. It's a pretty small town. I only know the musicians around here by name.
