One last question:

If I took everything out (grounding the circuit board) and reconnected the power supply, would it still function like it does now or would I run into complications?

uh no.......any validator operates based on information fed to it from a coin mech , or electronic board, info like machine in stand by, coins available to make change, product available etc. .....to decide weather to accept a bill....there are simple inexpensive, testers available that simulate the functions mentioned, allowing you to at least test......your post is a little vague, but i hope this helps you

Thanks for your reply. I bought an AC-500 and took out the hopper with the change bin. In essence it is a large heavy metal box, power supply, validator with stacker and a lock. The changer is occupying too much space so I thought of "surgically" removing the board, validator and connecting the validator to just a battery, but don't know if it will work. I took pictures and they are below.
