Newbie here,

I'm curious where everyone stores there merchandise? Right after you buy it till it's time to use it where do you store everything? Do you just store it at room temp, refrige, freezer?

P.S. I'm just referring to the normal candies, peanut mms, mike and ikes, skittles, gumballs, etc.

Thanks,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The best place to store candy is in a cool room where the temperature doesn't fluctuate too much in winter or summer. Of course, keep away from the sun and away from where ants can attack.

Most vendors I know use their spare garage at home. That's what I do and it's free and most convenient way to store it. It this is not possible, then you can try a self-storage outlet and hire a space. You will pay a monthly fee for this service. Again, watch out for sun, ants, heat, theft etc.

Hope this helps,

WE ARE STORING IT IN THE BASEMENT SINCE IT STAY COOL ALL THE TIME THAT IS IF YOU HAVE ONE. GARAGE IS FINE TOO BUT IF NOT HEATED IN COLD WEATHER COULD FREEZE.

Thomas,

I have used over the years my bedroom, kitchen, garage and anywhere I could find as I grew! The best thing for me when I got to almost a 1000 machines was to build racks in the garage. I also bought the heavy duty rubbermaid racks you put together (really they are heavy duty shelves about 18" apart). I could do this most of the year until it was too hot / cold as our climate was relatively mild. I would bring in more sensitive items like MM Peanuts, and Reeses pieces. The more hardy candies were runts and skittles which I didn't have as much problem with. You can really store a lot of product with good organization.

I also put the candy in plastic tubs with lids you can buy cheapest at walmart or Dollar general. This kept bugs and rodents out of my candy which was a problem until I used the tubs. When temperature was a problem, I stacked tubs in the house 3-4 high and was able to work it fine. Keep in mind, you have to make sure your wife won't throw you out of the house first! Generally though, the garage was a good idea. I also stacked product next to an INTERRIOR wall, not an exterrior one more prone to temperature changes.

I was able then to run about 1000 machines easily out of my garage by good organization and inventory control. Be sure to keep your product rotated as Im sure you already do.

Hope this helps,
Mark
