Is there certain criteria that a new vending business has to meet in order to lease machines from Coke or Pepsi?
And are there other product manufacturers beside Coke and Pepsi that lease machines?
Mahalo,
Mary Coppin :)

Bottlers are different all over the country
Here in the midwest I have to buy a certain amount of product directly from the bottler to maintain the machines I have from them. There are upsides and downsides to using machines from a Coke or Pepsi Bottler.

Up side
I do not have to outlay a couple of grand if I need a machine.
They deliver and maintain the machine for me.
I am the only one to have the key and fill and collect from the machine.
It looks good to the customer that pepsi or coke delivers a machine for you.

Downside
You can only have that bottlers product in the machine
You have to buy a certain amount of product from them Which will be more expensive than if you were to go to sams club or else where
You have no equity in the buisness because you do not own the machines

The Bottlers I work with you have to have a track record of being in the buiness before they will deliver a machine for you.
In other words I had been in the buisness with my own machines for three years before I got a machine from pepsi or coke. But I have been working with them for six years, so now I can get what ever I need from them with a phone call.

Good Luck

You don't want to lease machines, because...
1. You always have to pay a certain fee, no matter how much income you are making, so in slower months you are still paying the fee
2. You can't have Coke and Pepsi products in the same machine, so if someone wants Pepsi and someone wants Coke, you need 2 machines.
3. When leasing the machine, and scrapes, dings, dents, scratches you are required to pay for at end of lease (just like a car)
4. You HAVE to buy from Coke or Pepsi. So if you see in flyers that pop is on sale, too bad, you have to purchase from Coke or Pepsi, they keep records of amount purchased.

Buying a machine is best, once you have made your payment to purchase, you don't worry about monthly fees and what not.

Maybe thats how it works in canada. Here in the good ol US of A I do not pay a fee. I do not pay for dents or dings and I have never ever have signed a lease agreement. I have to purchase X amount of product from them for the amount of machines that I have. Any thing above that I can get where I want. Your right on one thing they do keep records of how much you purchase. I also agree that if you can purchasing your own machines is best. But sometimes things fall in your lap and you have to act fast and its nice having coke or pepsi always warming up in the bull pen.
