Can someone give me some tips on what to clean when I get the clean me error flash on a 4510 coin mech? Also, and tips for fixing a coin mech that ha s a column that sticks. The first quarter will get stuck and the next time it will dispense two coins. Thanks in advance.

The best thing to use I have found is "Windex" non ammonia. The stuck tube is probably just dirty or sticky pop just have to take it apart and clean it. Just a thought.

Usually when I get a clean me message i just clean behind the lid assembly and that solves the problem.

As stated above, just open the lid at the top. It on a spring hinge. Clean both sides of the coin path. At our shop (MEI Service Center) we use denatured alcohol to clean it. An important note is once you clean it, it will NOT accept money for up to 1 minute. Keep dropping coins into the unit after you clean it and then it should start accepting again, usually about 20-30sec...just keep dropping coins in the unit.
The eratic change payout could be a sticky payout arm, or corrosion on the dispense board.

thats interesting i use isopropyl alcohol too but the instructions say not to do that. so i assume it wont hurt anything if you guys are using it to refurb the mechs.

Thanks to everybody who responded. It drives me crazy to pay my local repair place (although I'm grateful to have them) $45 to just have them look at it and then probably do no more than the things you suggested.

They are two different types of alcohol, I know the denatured evaproates very quickly. We have been doing coin mech repair for over 30 years and have had no problems, however it is not used on everything. You do have to be very careful on different mech/validator types as some plastic and belts will be damaged by different solvents and/or cleaners.

I talked to one of our techs, and he said to be sure to check the small control board located in the dispense assembly. It is the one the motors are hooked to. Check it for any corrosion or syrup as it will make the payout erratic. You can use regular electronic contact cleaner to clean it. If it has corrosion, it may need to be replaced.
On an additional note for future planning, MEI is no longer supporting the VN4xxx series units and some parts are becoming a bit hard to come by.

control board looks clean. anything else i can try before bringing them in to the shop? I've got 2 coin mechs with the same problem. just came up with another question on the 4000 series. I have a 4 tube cassette that is 05-10-05-10 that doesn't seem to accept quarters. is this normal or shouldn't it be accepting and dropping straight into coin box?

as always, thanks for the advice,
lou

Your 4 tube with 5/10/5/10 will need coins in the payout tubes before it will accept quarters if it is in a machine. On a tester it shouldn't matter

How can I correct an "accept gate error" on a 4510?
