Coin mech sometimes not accepting quarters?

For some reason, when I drop a quarter in, the quarter would usually drop into the change holder at the bottom. I try nickles and dimes and there are no problems. The mech takes it.
The weird thing is that every once in a while the mech would take the quarters, but for the most part it will keep going back into the change holder.
Is this a DIY fix job or am I gonna have to replace it?

I have a Coinco model 3341-s on a soda machine that is having some issues.

It could be a few things. 1. Quarter tube full sensor (High)is malfunctioning. Drain quarters down and see if it accepts quarters until the tube is full. 2. Diverter gate is broke or malfunctioning. Pull acceptor out disconnect harness pull back off acceptor check condition of diverter gates (2 solenoids left side facing back of acceptor lower one may be broke or melted) 3. Most likely coinmech needs to be tuned.Disconnect power to mech, Remove acceptor, remove inside cover, top right corner two pins jumper pins together, Put acceptor back in, power coinmech back up (machine must be in sales mode not service mode), drop 16 quarters through mech, red led inside mech should be flashing, turn off power, remove jumper, test coinmech. GOOD LUCK! Just a thought.

It was still having issues when the quarter tubes was about 3/4s full. I never thought of draining it completely though. I will try that.
For #2-3, wished I had a same model spare with me right now to follow.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
