having problems with a coinco ba30 validator, was previously working. was blinking the code "check optical sensor" , noticed a bill was jammed in it, didnt go all the way into the stack.

cleared jam and tried another bill, it jammed again and the same code flashed

what does this mean? is it causing the bill to jam? should i just replaced the validator?

What was the code that was flashing? There are a few optical sensors in a BA30.How did you clear the jam? You just pull the bill out? Did you take validator apart remove bill?
There are two very small holes in the front of the acceptor pull the head out take tip of a cuetip roll cotton to a point wet with alcohol clean sensor in the 2 very small holes remember ther are 2 more sensors that line up with those 2 above them that will need to be cleaned also. Thats the most common ones that get dirty. There is a rear accept sensor you'll have to pull head out remove transformer to clean that. there are sensors on the stacker you have to disassemble validator to get to also there is an encoder wheel which will need to be cleaned. Or you can take your 3 months profit buy a refurb and replace it or learn how to do it because it will need to be cleaned again in 6-12 months depending on location. get me the code and check to see if you tore the bill and left a piece in it first. Just a thought.

Be sure to use de natured alcohol, its quick drying, also if you have some bill acceptor cleaning cards run that thru your validator, your belts get plenty dirty as well, and the cleaning cards will strip the dirt right off. If your problems continues, you may need to get your validator rebuilt.

1 - code that was flashing 5 times
2 - the bill was halfway into the stacker i just pulled on it a bit and it came all the way into the stack
3 - i pulled the lower part of it out, didnt see any bits left in it

i have a few spares i can switch it out with i got for $30 from a repair place that was closing i just didnt want to mess with changing it out if it was something real simple to repair

ill try those cleaning procedures you mentioned

is there somewhere i can get clear instructions on this part:

" there are sensors on the stacker you have to disassemble validator to get to also there is an encoder wheel which will need to be cleaned."

funny thing is i ran the cleaning card thru it last week ( i got the cards from Happ Controls ) i thought maybe thats what caused the problem

When the bill stuck, something was obstructing the bill or more than likely the belts are not pulling the bill all of the way in. This caused the unit to flash the blocked sensor code since the bill had it blocked. Check for obstruction like a burr on the plastic from someone sticking a knife in it and check or replace belts.

Depending on the few other things serial#'s, upgrades etc. A 5 code can be different things. You need to remove cash box turn power off for 10 seconds turn power back on then count the flashes it may and should give you a different code which will pin point which optic sensor. Just a thought.
