Today, at a car dealership, I saw an old Dixie-Narco machine with the squarish buttons in a 4x2 layout, and noticed that it was modded with an LED digutal display in place of where the red "Use Exact Change" light would normally be located; a small round LED to indicate exact change was added to its side.
I wonder, has anyone seen something like that before? If so, who is the manufacturer of such retrofit kits?
Old Dixie-Narco machine retrofitted with LED digital display?

Yes, there are kits available for that upgrade on soda machines. On changers like the Mars TRC-6800H, there usually is a harness coming from the changer, that can plug into a display on the machine. That feature is commonly used with those kinds of upgrades, and is the only way the display is able to have machine data displayed on it.

We had used a retrofit kit from Vendors Exchange to do something like that. I believe it was made by Universal Controls out of CA. It takes about 45 min to install. It will convert your old single price machine to a multi price machine. It will allow you to set differtent prices for each column. It also will give a digital readout of sales totals, resettables sales, sales by column and of course gives you the interface for a bill validator. Actualy, the kits worked quite well for years. I believe they were around $200 and then you would need a mech & validator.
